Come rain or shine you’ll find members of 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory participating and supporting local events. Not short on numbers nor enthusiasm even on a cold Sunday morning our Scouts were out in force for the 2019 Macclesfield Half Marathon providing a water station.
Not only is this a great way for our Scout group to give back to the community, the young people need to have brilliant teamwork skills to ensure the fast paced groups of runners were suitably hydrated.
Despite heavy rain prior to the event, the weather held off and it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits as you will see from the photos.
Congratulations to Nasrin and Janneke 1st placed Junior team in Macclesfield & Congleton District at #CheshireHike 2019 an amazing achievement.
The Cheshire Hike draws hundreds of teams of Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across the county to compete over 2 days hiking across the Cheshire countryside, carrying all they need to sustain themselves for a weekend.
Each young person wishing to enter the hike in our group benefits from a series of training activities across several weekends in the Macclesfield hills to ensure they have the right skills to make the grade.
From navigation skills, cooking on a hiking stove to packing a rucksack and pitching a tent after a hard day walking these are all fantastic skills for life which Scouting is all about!
Every 4 years Cheshire Scouts hold a huge jamboree attracting over 6000 Scouts from 23 countries spending 1 week enjoying unforgettable experiences, participating in amazing activities and cultural events. This is Chamboree and it’s awesome on epic scales.
Chamboree 2018 was no exception, not least because Chief Scout Bear Grylls became an honorary member of our group, as the photo below testifies.
The 2018 edition theme was Pirates and the Cubs certainly entered into the spirit come opening night.
Spike reached new heights at the stunt base on the high jump.

It’s not every day you get to go scuba diving in a field in the middle of rural Cheshire!
The gateway to our campsite looked amazing, complete with 3rd Macc skull and crossbones plus a rainbow to boot.

The Scout Movement traces it’s roots back to a small camp organised by Baden Powell on Brown Sea Island, Poole, in 1907. Founded in 1908 and running continuously ever since makes 3rd Macclesfield Upton Priory among the longest established groups in the world.
To mark the occasion of our 110th anniversary we held an extraordinary camp at Barnswood Campsite and produced a film capturing this historic moment.
Scouting gives children more confidence, responsibility, a broader set of friends, a chance to pursue things they might not get to do otherwise, adventure and an extended family. This anniversary camp epitomised many of the positive aspects of modern Scouting, we hope you agree!
